Mientras trabajaba como abogada de planta representando a niños inmigrantes en los procedimientos legales, Rachel Rutter vio la terrible brecha que había entre los servicios legales y sociales para la mayoría de sus clientes. Había una falta de necesidades básicas, como seguridad alimentaria y de vivienda, atención médica y apoyo en materia de salud mental. Entonces, en 2015, Rachel formó su propia organización sin fines de lucro, Project Libertad, para llenar ese vacío y a su vez proporcionar representación legal gratuita y brindar apoyo académico a los jóvenes migrantes. Desde entonces, la organización ha ayudado a más de 1.100 personas, representando a más de 90 niños en casos de inmigración.
